Tok Sen

Tok sen, or “tapping the sen,” is a method used in Northern Thai bodywork. A wooden “cone” (mallet) is used to rap against various wooden “limbs” (wedges) held against the tissue, which gently stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system and release tension as techniques are applied to the sen lines, acupressure points, and areas of tightness and congestion in the body.

Tok means to hit and it also references the sound from the mallet when it hits the wooden wedge. Sen refers to the body’s energy pathways or the energy lines recognized in traditional Thai medicine.

Tok Sen can be used as the central element of a bodywork session or combined with other massage and bodywork techniques such as passive stretching, tissue manipulation, table massage and energy work. The deep vibration and rhythmic tapping of the tools improve the energetic, emotional, and physical wellbeing of the receiver.
